  1. General Requirements Article 210 establishes general requirements for branch circuits, including their capacity, overcurrent protection, and wiring methods. It also covers the installation of branch circuits in various types of spaces, such as dwelling units, commercial buildings, and hazardous locations.

  2. Branch Circuit Ratings Branch circuits must be rated to carry the current required by the connected loads, and their overcurrent protection must be selected to protect the conductors from overloading and short circuits. The rating of a branch circuit is based on the ampacity of the circuit conductors.

  3. Branch Circuit Wiring Methods Article 210 specifies the wiring methods that are permitted for branch circuits, including nonmetallic-sheathed cable, armored cable, and conduit. The wiring methods must be appropriate for the location and conditions of use, and must comply with the requirements for ampacity, conductor sizing, and grounding.

  4. Branch Circuit Outlets Branch circuit outlets, including receptacles and lighting fixtures, must be installed in accordance with the requirements of Article 210.
